Best Slow Cooker Recipes

Here at Best Slow Cooker you will find delicious, easy slow cooker and crock pot recipes that have all been personally tested by our family, and graded according to taste and time needed for preparation.

Today's lifestyle, with its pressures on time often results in a dependence on fast food or instant meals, and quite understandably so. Often, after a long day, the thought of cooking a full meal takes just too much work and time to consider.

Switch your slow cooker or crockpot on in the morning, and come home to the marvellous aroma of a delicious meal ready to be served. If you work at home, it allows you to get on with other things, but beware - those smells are going to make you hungry.

Slow Cookers Are Economical

Slow Cookers use very little energy, and so are cheap to run - much cheaper than baking in the oven. Another advantage is that the long cooking times will tenderise the cheapest cuts of meat letting you save money on ingredients.

And better yet, slow cookers are cheap to buy, starting at around ten dollars for the most basic models. They come in two shapes, either oval or round, and in capacities from one to six litres, (quarts). The size you need depends on the number of people you're cooking for. Allow around a litre, per person.

Oval slow cookers are generally considered more versatile than the round variety because longer cuts of meat on the bone, and whole chickens or other birds will cook in them without having to be cut up to fit.

Slow Cooker Recipes Are Healthy

When you cook vegetables in a pan, and drain them before serving, many of the beneficial vitamins go down the drain with the cooking water. In slow cooker recipes, these nutritious fluids are preserved and incorporated into the meal.

European, Asian and Cajun Slow Cooker Recipies

There is a long tradition of slow cooking, (usually in an oven), in European, Asian and Cajun cultures. The electric slow cooker is excellent for recreating these dishes with their melding of flavours without having to stand over the stove.

For example, these varied dishes from the three continents, Europe, Asia and America are perfect for slow cooker recipes.

From Europe: Fabada, (Spain) and Cassoulet, (France)
From Asia: Makhni Chicken, (India) Massaman Curry, (Thailand)
From America: Bayou Gumbo, Jambalaya

Whether you want to make simple slow cooker chicken recipes, or something more exotic, a slow cooker will save you time and money as well as providing yourself and your family with mouth watering healthy home cooked slow cooker meals.

Slow Cooker Tips

Fill cooker to at least half full, but not more than two thirds

Almost cover the ingredients with liquid for good transfer of heat

Lifting the lid during cooking will lose heat, increasing cooking time, and causing moisture loss

If using sugary ingredients, either use a liner or non-stick spray to make cleaning easier

Defrost ingredients before cooking

Place ingredients that are slower to cook, such as root vegetables, at the bottom of the cooker

Cooking on 'high' takes half as long as cooking on 'low'

If you had a power cut, there is no way of knowing if food is cooked properly. Throw it out

Don't re-heat food in a slow cooker

Cheaper, tougher cuts of meat will be tenderised in a slow cooker

Soak dried beans for twelve hours and boil for ten minutes before adding to the cooker to remove toxins

Adding a little liquid and pre-heating the cooker gives food a fast start
